Hope into Action
Hope into Action is a Christian charity set up to enable churches to purchase houses in which to provide homes for the homeless, refugees or vulnerable adults.
This is done by asking church members to share their wealth, not just give it away, by investing in houses in their area. So far, over 30 houses have been purchased in this way in Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire and Norfolk. Hope into Action Woodbridge have recently established the first in Suffolk, in Melton, through an initiative started in St John’s Church. The response from this and other local churches was amazing, so that not only did we get 19 people wanting to invest in a house but we also have a large range of volunteers to provide help and support.
We completed on the sale of the house in September 2014 and work was undertaken to make it into a very comfortable home; many generous people have contributed their time, expertise and/or furniture and equipment to make this possible. We had 2 male residents to start with, one of whom remains in occupation whilst the first, who was with us for 8 months has now moved to Germany to take up a job opportunity there. We are currently seeking a replacement. The key to the project is to provide a home for those who wish to change their lives and make a fresh start; as such the length of stay is only ever temporary – often between 6 and 12 months – in order that the residents stabilise their situation and with the help of the many volunteers whose role is to pass on God’s love, move on to new beginnings.
