Hope into Action
Hope into Action is a Christian charity set up to enable churches to purchase houses in which to provide homes for the homeless, refugees or vulnerable adults.
Hope into Action is a registered charity (number 1137686) that enables churches to house the homeless.
Using the investment capacity of the church (or investors from elsewhere), a home is bought. This home is then used to accommodate 2 (or maybe 3) people coming from a vulnerable situation. These may be homeless men, women or families. Hope into Action provides a home plus empowerment for the tenants to work towards living independently (and moving out).
St John’s Church initiated the purchase of a house in Woodbridge, thanks to the generosity of a group of investors who formed a Trust to purchase a house. They completed on the sale of the house in September 2014. Since then it has provided a home for 2 male tenants at a time. In total, 5 tenants have lived in the house. The most recent tenants have both made great strides towards standing on their own feet. One has moved out of the house in to his own flat.
Hope into Action provides professional support for the tenants. In Woodbridge this is delivered by the Selig (Suffolk) Trust. They run Ipswich Hope into Action as well as the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter. The partnership with St John’s Church provides volunteers who are coordinated by Selig staff. The church also provides prayer, practical support and a compassionate community.
