The most recent Alive Festival was “Unpacking Grace” held in May 2014.
We decided to take a rest after running the festival for eight years, to take stock, pray and reflect. It is our desire to run an Alive type event in the future but we realise that we need to do this in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We are currently investigating a link up with the Fountain of Life Church in Ashill Norfolk and are joining with them for their Father’s Heart Weekend in June this year.
Alive Festival began in 2008 as part of a response to the Hope 08 national initiative. St John's had been involved in the Living Water Conference based at Norwich Showground, which sadly had to close after 11 years in 2006. After a time of waiting on God Rev Dave Gardner & his wife Karen discovered how they might build on the work undertaken. In conversations with some of the national leadership of New Wine Dave & Karen realised before God, that there was a space for a smaller community-based festival that might provide a taste of the bigger conferences but on a more local scale. They were also influenced by the style and example of the Hay-on-Wye literary festival which grew from small beginnings and is based in a rural riverside town.
The original vision of the festival was to encourage Christians of all ages from East Anglia and beyond to be renewed by the work of the Holy Spirit, and engage with mission in our local communities and networks. In the gentle landscape of this beautiful riverside town, Alive provided an opportunity to recharge our spiritual batteries alongside Christians from different denominations.
Please continue to watch this space for more “Alive” details.
