Slum Survivor 19th - 21st October 2007

A NORMAL weekend for most teenagers is usually spent watching television, listening to iPods or playing computer games. But over the weekend a group of youngsters from the Woodbridge area dropped the gadgets and home comforts to build and live in slums....... read more
Revival 24 hour famine for World Vision
It has taken a while to collect all the sponsor money for the famine that took place in February. Thanks to the young people who took part, and all those who supported them and gave money, the total raised was £1550.59. £300 was raised from bag packing and donations outside Budgens, another £200 from donations at St John's on the Sunday, and £1050 from sponsor money. All this money will help young people in Zambia who have lost parents to get started and grow their own food.
More details and photos can be seen on the Revival website.

'Woodbridge Passion' - Good Friday 2007
Woodbridge & Melton Churches Together
Each year in Woodbridge, on Good Friday, dozens of people walk in a procession through the town, behind a large wooden cross. They are taking part, like thousands of others in towns and cities across the country, in a 'Walk of Witness', a public declaration of the Christian faith.
This year, that walk looked a little different. Many of the participants were dressed in Biblical costume and, instead of leaving the group to enter their own particular church buildings along the route, they are congregated at Elmhurst Park for an open air presentation of a Passion Play.

New books from St John's author!
Worship leader and member of St John's, Andrea Skevington is a popular author and poet. This month she adds to the 19 children's stories, anthologies and inspirational books which bear her name, with the publication of The Story of Jesus.
"Two years ago Lion Publishing got in touch with me to ask if I would be interested in writing a book of the life of Jesus for older children. So, on a day when the schools were closed due to heavy snow, I made my way to Oxford to find out more. We talked about how to respect the different viewpoints of the four gospel writers, as well as how long each episode could be. Much painful pruning was required...
"What a wonderful challenge, though! It was such an enriching experience to spend months studying, and meditating on, the gospel – to be immersed in the coming of the kingdom of God. I learned so much from imagining what it was like for those who heard and saw Jesus with their own ears and eyes. It is my hope, and my prayer, that those who read this book will be able to identify with the people who drew close to Jesus, who heard words of compassion and hope, words of healing and restoration that transformed their lives."
The Story of Jesus is available from St John's bookstall, and all good bookshops including Young Browsers in Woodbridge.
