Counselling Service
Who is St John's Counselling service for?
Counselling can be a way forward when the problems and difficulties of life seem too much to cope with alone. The service is open to both members of the church and the wider community, irrespective of their beliefs.
What is counselling?
Counsellors can give support both in times of crisis and when a person is confronting longerterm issues. Through the counselling relationship individuals develop insight into their problems, and hopefully move towards self-acceptance and constructive change. Each person is encouraged to make his or her own choices and decisions.
Who are the counsellors?
The members of St. John's Counselling Team are Christian volunteers who are professionally
trained, and committed to providing a service using their particular skills.
Is it confidential?
The counselling session offers a secure and safe place in which individuals can explore personal issues. Our desire is to offer compassion, respect and acceptance to each person who chooses to come for counselling. We strictly adhere to the BACP* and ACC* code of ethics.
*British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; Association of Christian Counsellors.
What will it cost?
There is a fixed charge of £15 to help cover costs, including the professional supervision of our counsellors.
How can I make an appointment?
The counselling service has a confidential answerphone. When you ring you will be asked to leave your name and number and a suitable time for us to return your call in confidence. You will be invited to come for an initial appointment, and if both you and the counsellor think that counselling would be of value, you will be offered some sessions. There will also be an opportunity to discuss other options open to you.
